Men’s Health

Men’s health is an important concern for Dr. Charkawi at John’s Creek Dermatology and Family Medicine.  It’s a fact that men do not pay attention to their health like they should.  They tend to put off regular check-ups which are paramount for preventing diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart attack, and more.  Dr. Charkawi is an excellent internist who wants to help all of his patients maintain excellent health.  Besides physicals, testing, and diagnosing men’s normal health concerns and conditions, Dr. Zack Charkawi offers two treatments especially for men.

P-Shot

The P-Shot is named for the Greek god of virility, Priapus. It uses the body’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP).  Dr. Charkawi takes your blood then transfers it to a centrifuge where it is spun for about 10 minutes. This process separates the PRP from the platelet poor plasma.  After the plasma is separated, the PRP with enriched growth factors is injected into the penis to stimulate blood flow and new tissue growth in the genital area.  The shot increases circulation which leads to rejuvenation. This is an effective, non-surgical, FDA approved treatment.

PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration

A man’s hairline can be a touchy subject.  Hair loss and thinning hair can cause anxiety and even depression for some individuals.  Men who inherit male-pattern baldness find themselves losing more than the standard 50-100 hairs a day. Thinning hair is normal as we age. However, for some the hair begins to thin and balding sets in.  Dr. Charkawi has the training and equipment to use platelet rich plasma (PRP) to help with concerns about hair loss.

The PRP procedure uses the patient’s own blood for treatment.  There is no chance of “rejection” or allergic reaction because there is nothing foreign added to the blood.  Dr. Charkawi draws blood, spins it to separate the PRP from the PPP then injects it into the patient’s scalp.  The protein that results makes new cells grow and spread all over the scalp.  This therapy can also be used in women.  When used in conjunction with hair replacement surgery, it helps the transplant grafts grow well.  PRP has so many uses and benefits.
